Cash Bar

A bar where guests pay for their own drinks.
At a cash bar, guests buy their own drinks rather than the host covering them. It keeps the host’s bar cost near zero and is common at larger or more casual events.
Many events use a hybrid: the host provides beer and wine while spirits are cash, or hosts the bar for the first hour and switches to cash after. Either way, professional bartenders keep the line moving. If you use a cash bar, tell guests in advance.
